Sorry, none yet. But they're working on it. Check out Travis Wyckoff on one of the WSU webs. This former Bulldog holds the WSU record for doubles in one game and currently leads his WSU team in hitting going into the College world series. ACHS has a state runner up in 1996.
How about one state championship in 1918.
We do have some individuals who have gained recognization: Travis Wyckoff for one is the all-time state assist leader with 753 (1989-92) and has the most assists in one game at 21.
Darren Stewart blocked 194 shots in his career (1988-89) including 13 in one game.
Brian Lolar hit nine straight field goals without a miss in 1990.
No state championships, but what a season they just had in 1996.
The Bulldogs won back to back state titles in 1987 and 1988.
The Bulldogs won it all in 1979 and have 15 playoff appearances to their credit. This ties them for fifth place in appearances in the playoffs. The Bulldogs have had 6 undefeated (includes ties) seasons.
The Bulldogs were state runner-up in 1978 and 1986. The 1979 team still holds the record for most touchdowns in a season at 84.
Harvey Fields ranks fifth with 65 career touchdowns in the state of Kansas and is 11th in career rushing yardsat 4,300.
Two golf teams have won the state championship for Ark City. Those teams were from 1962, and 1995. (hey, that was last year)
The Ark City girls have won back to back state championships (1994-95) and will be strong again next fall.
They've only had championships since 1990, give them a chance.
Five straight state appearances and two runner-up teams, ACHS finally wins the state championship with a 1-0 win over Salina South in 1996..
Ark City boys teams have won three state championships. Back to back in 1989 and 90, and again in 1992. The Bulldogs have had five individual champions, and 11 doubles champions. The 11 doubles champions ranks third in the state in number. Neighbor Winfield leads with 26.
Cowley County Community College coach Larry Grose was a two time doubles champion in 1960-61. Grose teamed with John Guyot for those wins.* Doug Owen also won two titles in 84-85 and Jason Grose duplicated his fathers' fete in 1986 and 87 by winning consecutive doubles titles.
Mitch Mills won a doubles title in 1984 and a singles title in 1985.
*note: Cowley County won state doubles titles six years running with Winfields' Cate and Cobble winning in 58&59; Grose and Guyot in 60-61, and the Viking's McCoy and Kraus in 62&63.
Girls: The Bulldog girls have not had a team champion, but have had five doubles champions.
Boys: Ark City boys won state titles in 1932 and again in 1988. Harold Wilhelm won three consecutive championships in the 110 meter high hurdles from 1930-32. Javelin thrower Matt Gee (1988) ranks 6th all-time at 243-9. Discus Thrower Jeff Smith (1991) is 9th all-time at 190-5.
Girls: The girls have not won a team championship. HS junior Amanda Crouse ranks 9th overall in the 800 having been an all-class champion last year at 2:14.31.
Also on the All-time list is Debbie Walker (1978) in the hurdles whose 14.2 in the 110 highs ranks 6th in the state.
Haven't won it yet, but they went to the state tournament this year.
